Stacey Bergman, CPA

Stacey’s comprehensive professional experience includes 9 years in public accounting with 2 years in the private sector. While in public accounting, the majority of her time was focused on working with her exempt organization clients. Stacey has extensive experience working with exempt organizations in the preparation of their internal financials, helping exempt organizations get ready for financial audits and reviews, the conducting of audits, reviews and compilations for exempt organizations of varying size and the preparation of the information and income tax returns for exempt organizations.

Having performed nearly 75 attestation engagements in her career, Stacey has extensive experience in addressing audit, review and compilation issues facing exempt organizations of all shapes and sizes. No two attestation engagements are alike and Stacey’s approach to each one reflects that. By first gaining a thorough understanding of an exempt organization’s mission and operations, Stacey is better able to address the specific needs of the organization and can tailor a unique audit, review or compilation to meet those needs. Exempt organization engagements differ from non-exempts in many ways, one of which is the purpose of a financial statement audit. Donors, grant makers and state attorney generals all scrutinize exempt organization financial statements, making them a valuable marketing tool beyond their role in the compliance world. Furthermore, Stacey’s experience in preparing Form 990 and Form 990-PFs allows for great opportunity to leverage synergies when working with exempt organizations.

With extensive practical experience and expertise as a financial auditor, Stacey also possesses the requisite skills and knowledge to assist any size or type of exempt organization with audit preparation procedures. With this, she is able to assist organizations with the preparation of their audit documentation and the pulling together of their audit PBC information. Stacey also has significant accounting and bookkeeping experience; she currently serves as an outsourced CFO and Controller for multiple exempt organizations, assisting with the creation, documentation and implementation of internal controls and accounting procedures as well as special projects based on the specific needs of the exempt organization. Finally, Stacey directly supervises personnel in the undertaking of various bookkeeping functions for exempt organizations.

Stacey regularly conducts technical presentations for exempt organizations. Recent seminar topics have included the creation and implementation of internal controls within an exempt organization, financial management basics, deciphering variations between the Form 990 financial statements and audited financial statements and guiding members of board of directors in understanding exempt organization financial statements.

Remaining connected to her community is something that Stacey greatly values. She participates in a multitude of philanthropic events and fundraisers and currently sits as Treasurer for a local religious organization and has served as the Vice President of Individual Development for the Long Beach Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Stacey earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from California State University Long Beach. Personal interests include hiking, snow skiing, baking and spending time with her husband and daughter.
